Concrete & Structural Works

Featured Popular

Concrete & structural works involve the design, construction, and installation of reinforced concrete and structural elements, ensuring the stability, strength, and durability of buildings and infrastructure.

Description

Concrete & structural works cover all activities related to the construction of building frameworks, foundations, and load-bearing structures. This includes reinforced concrete (RCC) works such as foundations, columns, beams, slabs, and walls, as well as structural steel works when required.

The process begins with formwork and shuttering, followed by rebar installation as per design specifications. Concrete is then poured, compacted, and cured to achieve the required strength and durability. These works also include quality control activities such as slump testing, cube testing, and reinforcement inspection to ensure compliance with structural requirements.

Concrete & structural works are critical to the safety, stability, and longevity of any construction project, providing a solid framework for finishing works, MEP installations, and architectural elements.

Technical Description

Concrete & structural works involve the execution of reinforced concrete and steel structural elements in compliance with project drawings, specifications, and relevant codes (e.g., ACI, BS, or local standards).

Key technical activities include:

Formwork/Shuttering: Design, fabrication, and installation of temporary molds to shape concrete elements.
Reinforcement Works: Cutting, bending, and placement of steel bars (rebar) as per structural drawings.
Concrete Works: Pouring, compacting, and curing concrete to achieve design strength.
Structural Steel Works: Fabrication and erection of steel beams, columns, and trusses.
Testing & Quality Control: Slump tests, cube/cylinder strength tests, and inspection of reinforcement cover.
Compliance: Ensuring all works meet safety, load-bearing, and durability requirements.

These works ensure a robust structural framework, capable of supporting all subsequent architectural, MEP, and finishing works.

Service Process

Project Planning & Design Review
Review structural drawings, specifications, and design requirements
Conduct site surveys and geotechnical assessments
Plan material procurement, manpower, and equipment requirements
Formwork/Shuttering Setup
Install temporary molds for beams, columns, slabs, and walls
Ensure alignment, level, and rigidity to withstand concrete pressure
Reinforcement Installation
Cut, bend, and place steel bars as per structural drawings
Ensure proper cover, spacing, and anchorage for durability and safety
Concrete Pouring
Prepare concrete mix (site-mix or ready-mix) as per design strength
Pour concrete into formwork and perform vibration/compaction to eliminate air pockets
Monitor pouring to maintain uniformity and prevent segregation
Curing & Strength Monitoring
Apply curing methods (water, membrane, or curing compounds) to achieve design strength
Conduct cube/cylinder testing to verify compressive strength
Structural Steel Works (if applicable)
Fabricate steel elements off-site or on-site
Erect steel beams, columns, and trusses according to structural plan
Ensure proper welding, bolting, and alignment
Quality Control & Inspection
Inspect formwork, reinforcement, and steel connections
Test concrete slump, strength, and workability
Verify compliance with structural specifications and safety standards
Demolding & Finishing
Remove formwork after sufficient concrete strength is achieved
Smooth surfaces and prepare for subsequent finishing or MEP works
Handover & Documentation
Provide as-built drawings and inspection reports
Ensure client acceptance and readiness for next phase of construction

Materials Used

Cement
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) or Sulphate Resistant Cement for concrete works
Used in foundations, slabs, beams, columns, and walls
Aggregates
Coarse Aggregates: Crushed stone, gravel for structural strength
Fine Aggregates: Sand for concrete mix and plastering
Reinforcement Steel (Rebar)
High-strength steel bars (TMT/Deformed bars)
Used for all reinforced concrete elements to provide tensile strength
Water
Clean, potable water for concrete mixing and curing
Concrete Admixtures (Optional / As Required)
Plasticizers, superplasticizers, retarders, or accelerators to modify concrete properties
Formwork Materials
Timber, plywood, steel, or aluminum panels for shuttering
Supports and props to maintain shape and alignment
Structural Steel (If Applicable)
Beams, columns, trusses, plates for steel frameworks
Bolts, nuts, and welding materials for assembly
Curing Materials
Water, curing compounds, or wet burlap for proper hydration of concrete
Grouting Materials (If Required)
Non-shrink cementitious grout for anchoring and leveling
